Thicker Than Claret
is a The Loud House fanfic by Flagg 1991
On a normal morning of competing for spots in the long line to the bath and ragging on each other over breakfast at The Loud House, Lisa Loud collects spit samples from her siblings for a simple and innocent experiment looking into their family unit's Dna. Unaware that in doing and so, she would uncover a piece of information that would change her family forever: Lincoln is adopted!
At present the Loud family unit must deal with the emotional fallout of her discovery and just as it seems similar they might have adapted to the situation, Rita and Lynn Sr. drop some other bombshell on the kids: Lincoln also has a long lost twin sister!
This story contains examples of:
- Abusive Parent: Lincoln's and Linka'southward biological mother was apparently, not only neglectful, merely physically abusive to her babe children. Their father was a murderer, though the Louds go along that data a secret for now.
- Adoption Angst: Lincoln is naturally very upset when he learns he's adopted, especially since Lisa just dropped the bombshell rather than the Louds breaking the news gently to him. For a while he fears if his family will someday cease lovig him, comparing it to people getting divorced fifty-fifty though they where in one case in dearest, with the Louds trying their hardest to convince him otherwise.
- Adult Fright: Seeing your child or younger sibling dealing with feelings of not belonging in their own home and other potent emotional wounds, knowing you lot tin can do cypher virtually it beyond being there for them as they slowly heal over time.
- Berserk Button: Thinking nearly Lincoln and Linka'due south abusive nativity mother is this for Rita.
- Bonding over Missing Parents: Biological parents in this case; after Lincoln finds out most his adoption, he discusses his state of affairs with Clyde (who is also adopted, though unlike Lincoln he knew this all along). Clyde is surprised and excited to hear he and Lincoln take this in mutual.
- Brick Joke: Early after her introduction to us, while Linka'southward bemoaning the fact she doesn't have anyone willing to play tag with her. The commencement thing she does after she and Lincoln go past the awkward part of their commencement official meeting is challenge him to a game.
- Absurd Big Sis: Lori strives to fill up this office meliorate, following her Graphic symbol Development.
- Darker and Edgier: Downplayed; While the story is by no ways "nighttime and edgy" per se, especially compared to sure other Loud Firm fics, and there are enough of calorie-free hearted moments through out, its tone is still noticeably more serious than the cartoon.
- Delayed Reaction:
- An important plot betoken is that Lori (and the other three oldest Loud Sisters for that matter) doesn't realize that the DNA research Lisa was collecting when they woke up in the morning time would reveal Lincoln equally adopted till after that day, when it's too late to stop information technology from happening. Justified in that it had been so long since their brother'south adoption at that point, it's not something they really even think about anymore, with Lori herself fifty-fifty comparison it to thinking about the sky being blue; something you ever know in the back of your heed, merely never actually take reason to think on it.
- Also, when Lisa see's that Lincoln'southward Dna doesn't match the rest of the family, she doesn't realize the ramifications of this data until after she'due south already spoken information technology out loud in forepart of him and the remainder of their siblings.
- Disappeared Dad: Lincoln'southward and Linka's biological father is in jail for murder, and thus wasn't a role of their lives anymore even before they were put upwardly for adoption.
- Deuteragonist: Linka becomes this in the latter half of the story, starting correct after her existence is revealed.
- Double Standard: Abuse, Female person on Male person: A adequately lite-hearted but nonetheless noticeable example occurs during Lincoln and Linka'south first car ride together on the way to the latter'due south parents' house where later on being told about the "games" Lynn plays with Lincoln on car rides, she decides to without warning, initiate their showtime "play fight" as siblings and while they both have a lot of fun messing with each other during the ride to her firm, Linka's immune to hit Lincoln all she wants, albeit lightly plenty to non cause any serious damage but yet hard enough to injure, while he feels the need to use less directly methods at getting retribution, like giving her a wet-willy. She even gets a last cheap shot in after they're out of the car and he thinks it's over, without being called out on it by either him or her parents.
- Failed a Spot Check: Played for drama in a flashback to when Lynn Sr. and Rita showtime brought Lincoln home, where Luna was and then caught up in playing with her new babe brother, it took her hours to realize his twin and her would be adopted sister Linka wasn't with them.
- Fanon Aperture: Invoked; in response to a reviewer bringing upwards the infamous episode "No Such Luck", the author responded that the events from that episode never happened in this fanfic's continuity.
- Girly Girl: Linka is presented as this, though with a minor tomboy streak.
- Good Parents: Both the Louds and the Randalls are presented as this.
- Half-Identical Twins: Lincoln and Linka are said to notwithstanding acquit a hit resemblance to each other, despite not technically being identical twins, existence different sexes and all.

- Happily Adopted: Lincoln and Linka both are more than or less this, despite not being aware of this fact at the offset and dealing with some… feelings subsequently finding out.
- I Gave My Word: During Lori's Jerkass Realization, mentioned beneath, she recalls after finding out nearly the abusive home Lincoln came from, she promised her new baby blood brother he'd never be hurt in their home and realizes she's failed that promise miserably.
- I'grand Continuing Right Here: Afterwards the Loud Siblings learn about Lincoln'south twin sister Linka, Lisa offhandedly mentions to herself that she'south e'er wanted to study ''opposite sexual activity" twins, but has been cursed with Lana and Lola, who immediatly object to this statement. Subsequently apologizing, Lisa says she can be as air headed as Leni… who is as well in earshot.
Lori: Now you're doing it on purpose!
Lisa: Who said geniuses couldn't accept a sense of sense of humor.
- I Want Grandkids: A variation; after learning Lincoln and Ronnie-Anne are getting more serious near their relationship, Luna playfully insists he become around to making her an aunt one-time, despite the fact, as Lincoln himself points, they're still just eleven.
- Implausible Hair Color: Linka brings upwardly what an oddity having white hair is, specially since neither of her parents share this trait.

- Locked Out of the Loop: Only the Loud children's parents, Lynn Sr. and Rita, the four oldest sisters, and Linka'due south parents were aware of Lincoln and Linka'south adoption prior to Lisa bravado the lid on the situation

- Long-Lost Relative: Lincoln'south twin sis Linka.
- Mama Behave: Rita'southward blood really starts to boil when thinking about Lincoln's and Linka's birth mother.
- Massive Numbered Siblings: This aspect of the Loud Family is lampshaded a couple times.
- My God, What Have I Washed?: Lisa immediately regrets accidentally blowing the lid on Lincoln's origins.
- Oblivious Adoption: Lincoln and Linka.
- Oh, Crap!: Lori has this reaction upon realizing that Lisa's Deoxyribonucleic acid research is going to reveal Lincoln's not their biological blood brother, before cutting her date with Bobbie short to run habitation and stop it. She's too late. Luna and Luan have like, albeit more subdued reactions, due to already beingness too tardily to do annihilation but condolement him about it.
- Out of Character Is Serious Business concern: Lincoln'south sisters notice that he stops walking effectually the house in his underwear after finding out he'southward adopted and realize it'southward a sign that he doesn't experience comfortable being and then relaxed nigh his modesty in-front end of his sisters anymore, now that he knows their not blood siblings. Though they don't annotate on information technology, they're relieved the outset time they see him walk out of his room in his undies again.
- Outnumbered Sibling: Lynn teases Lincoln over this subsequently they learn of his long lost twin sister, bringing him upward to eleven sisters and no brothers.
Lynn: Possibly mom and dad will get to piece of work on giving you lot a brother one 24-hour interval.
- Petite Pride: While the Loud Children are roasting each other over breakfast in the first chapter, Lynn's flat chest gets mentioned as an insult, simply for her to castor it off by pointing out having big breasts would hinder her otherwise athletic build.
- Precision F-Strike: "Bitch" is said a couple of times in this manner by Lincoln'southward sisters when they really go under each other's pare.
- Related in the Accommodation: In canon, Linka was but a gender swapped version of Lincoln that appears briefly in a Dream Episode. Here, she's his long lost twin sister.
- Unrelated in the Accommodation: Of class Lincoln isn't related to the rest of The Loud Family by claret in this story. Not that this matters much to any of them, at least at the end of the day.
- Relationship Upgrade: A subplot early in the story is this happening between Lincoln and Ronnie-Anne.
- Rule of Three: Linka's true cat will apparently tolerate her getting on his nerves exactly two times earlier he bites her, since he likes her. She pushes her luck past messing with him a third time moments after she had gotten on his fretfulness twice.
- Separated at Nascency: Lincoln and Linka, thanks to a clerical mistake that lead to both the Louds and Linka'southward parents the Randalls both adopting the twins, leading to both families having to compromise by only taking one each.
- Siblings Wanted: Linka wants i, but her parents don't experience the "time is right" to try having some other. Luckily she learns she had a brother all along… who comes with ten other siblings.
- Surprise Incest: Discussed while Lincoln's playing brawl with Lynn in the days leading up to his his first meeting with his twin sister Linka, she jokingly warns him to be conscientious who he gets together with in the future while he doesn't know who could be biologically related to him and goes into rather… squicky detail about the potential "consequences'' of such a union to mess with him.
- Switching P.O.V.: The story periodically switches from Lincoln's point of view to his sister's, particularly Linka.
- Take That!: At i betoken, Ronnie-Anne jokingly asks if she should worry almost one of the girls Lincoln lives with stealing him from her, since they now know they're not biologically related. Lincoln, predictively, reacts with utter cloy at the idea of being romantically involved with i of his sisters and asks why everyone keeps asking about him and his sisters in that context, probable as a jab at the infamous Loudcest ships in the fandom… and peradventure a flake of Self-Deprecation on the part of the author, who has dabbled in that themself.
- Thicker Than Water: The story (and the championship) plays with this concept, in that Lincoln and Linka are not blood relatives of his and her family, only the honey and bounds they take formed were ultimately more of import… merely that said, they both detect a degree of solace in finding someone who is a blood relative of theirs.
- Title Drop: While talking to her about finding out he's adopted and his feelings near the situation, Ronnie-Anne tells Lincoln "Honey is thicker than blood".
- Took a Level in Kindness: Every bit mentioned above, Lori tries to make an effort to exist a better big sister figure after the scare with Lincoln finding out almost his adoption. It seems to be working and even seems to be rubbing off on her siblings, who's jabs at each other at the dinner table accept go noticeably less mean spirited .
- Ungrateful Bounder: One of Lincoln'due south (thankfully unfounded) fears afterwards finding out he's adopted is that his parents thought this of him every time he threw a tantrum and acted up, after they took him in. He manages to push these thoughts away by reminding himself his family does love him… then starts thinking he's ungrateful for having these thoughts virtually them to begin with.
- Walking Spoiler: Linka is single handedly responsible for most, if not all of the spoiler tags on this page.
- Wham Line:
Lynn Sr.: Y'all accept another sister… a twin.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Lori chews out Lisa for her dropping the bombshell that Lincoln is non related to the Louds, without realizing how Lincoln himself might feel about this reveal.
